About this listen

Autumn 1917 and Great Britain is still at war with Germany. Stylish lady detective, Miss Isabel Hewitt and her household are coping with the hardships of the Home Front, when she learns that her sweetheart and former confidant, Clarke, has been badly injured. She hopes he will be repatriated soon but there is no time to plan, as she is approached by a Lady Shillington for help.

The lady has been conducting an illicit affair and has been photograph with her lover. She is now being blackmailed. Also, Isabel's friend, Dilly Gosling, has been photographed in an apparently compromising position and is being blackmailed too.

Isabel agrees to investigate both. She soon unearths a pack of secrets and lies, whilst Clarke, fearing he is now a cripple, plans to leave her for his nurse, Nelly Holmes. But, at the very heart of the case, is a secret even more sinister.

Will Isabel be able to uncover it and reveal the truth? And will Clarke change his mind?
