Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Minecraft: The Island by Max Brooks.

Two editions, two narrators, one thrilling story. Enjoy this version read by Jack Black, and then be sure to check out the other available version narrated by Samira Wiley.

The first official Minecraft novel! In the tradition of iconic adventures like Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island, the Number One New York Times best-selling author of World War Z tells the story of a hero - stranded in the world of Minecraft - who must unravel the secrets of a mysterious island in order to survive.

Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore. 'Where am I? Who am I? And why is everything made of blocks?' But there isn't much time to soak up the sun. It's getting dark, and there's a strange new world to explore!

The top priority is finding food. The next is not becoming food. Because there are others out there on the island...like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls. Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other. Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava? Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend: a cow.

In this world, the rules don't always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way. There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat. Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

Brilliant!

This novel puts to words an answer to that question any new or seasoned Minecraft player has likely asked themselves at least once: "What would happen if you were sucked into the Minecraft world?"

The novel doesn't just poke fun at the logic in the Minecraft universe, instead turning things from simple game mechanics that most of us overlook after our first encounter with them, into something that ends up having to be taken into account in a genuine survival situation.

It was entertaining, listening to our protagonist have to learn the basics upon arriving in the Minecraft world, any player can probably relate, as well as hearing about his journey from a scared, disoriented newbie into a very knowledgeable, brave and curious crafter.

I learned a few neat survival strategies that I hadn't even considered, even after having owned a copy of the game for the past six years! So the story is not only interesting and entertaining, but informative and useful.

The lessons that our main character learns and leaves with us are real, and positive. Even dabbling in the moral qualms of putting innocent living creatures to the sword, for the sake of tastier food. Exploring how isolation can drive us crazy, as social animals ourselves.

Narrated by Jack Black, whom, without having seen his name beside this audible book when I accidentally stumbled upon it on Amazon, I would not have picked up - did an absolutely astonishing job, giving some extra personality to the main character. His voice was soothing and it made listening to the novel over the weekend into a very peaceful experience.

I would recommend this to any fans of the game, young or old. I'm not a major Minecraft expert myself, but I've seen some pointing out minor inconsistencies when comparing this novel to physics in the game. If you can overlook some very minor details, ones I didn't even notice myself, you will enjoy this audiobook.

If you like Jack Black and you like Minecraft, you will really enjoy this audiobook.

A lot of fun for all enthusiasts of Minecraft

Jack Black, really sold this book. His performance is exciting and interesting and I absolutely loved it. The book is aimed at young teens so it isn't incredibly in-depth. But it's quite engaging and takes you through the perspective of someone who wakes up into a world they are not familiar with and how they discover the mechanics of the game. And how they survive. It's a goofy take on Minecraft but Minecraft players, especially children would love it.

All n all, I really enjoyed this one. I've tried other Minecraft books but they are not as good as this one. So if you are looking for a book to start on I would recommend this one hands down.

5 stars.

The beginning of the book gave me a clear vision of how the story would evolve. I enjoyed the memories and flash backs. It was just really entertaining.
And being with the character from the start and following his journey. The writing was descriptive and Jake Black performance made it really entertaining. He is a great voice actor.
