About this listen

The Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of Night Watch, Sergei Lukyanenko. A year after the events of Metro 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.

great story; pretty good production.

I really enjoyed the story. It can get a little bit self involved but that is the writers style. the narration was good and the production was very well done. it would have been better to have male and female voice actors for the respective male and female parts.

Beautifully written

Excellent narration, only change would be to have female voice actors for their parts, as it’s clearly a male attempting a female voice.

Good, not as captivating as 2033

Great book, I just wasn't gripped as much by these characters as I was in 2033. It was a bit harder to follow and less 'spooky', where people transited from station to station much easier than they could've in 2033. overall great edition to the trilogy

Glorious stoic misery, hopeful yet tragic

Fewer stations this time around and a more meta story that includes the writer of the novel within the novel. Like the Soviet people themselves, the work relishes in the glorious stoic misery that oozes out of this dark world. At face value depressing, but with rumination emerges the strength of humanity to persist in spite of.

From an entertainment perspective this sequel is worse than the original, but from a critical literature point of view it is an absolute masterpiece. All the characters are philosophers and well read. That might seem implausible but it does reflect every Russian person I’ve ever met; they love a good existential debate and aren’t shy of projecting strong opinions. Sometimes they are even right.

The ending is quite beautiful; while not what I wanted it was very fitting given my title summary.

Book Two; excellent!

A slightly different style to the first book but very immersive. I really enjoyed it and Rupert Dagas brings the book to life with his superb performance.

Stay clear

I really enjoyed metro 2033 and I was excited to listen to metro 2034 but this book did not amount to the previous. The book dragged on at times and would eventually lead to a climax only to be let down when the climax came.

The story was boring most of the time and I cannot stop a book once I am listening. I struggled to finish it and I am not sure I want to listen to the next one.
