Old friend Marty O'Bannon, San Francisco Homicide Detective, calls FBI Agent Zack Tolliver early one morning for advice. O'Bannon is at the scene of a murder, the victim's throat ravaged as if by an animal, and no clues to the killer. He now has three particularly vicious unsolved murders, all with the same MO. It is just Zack's kind of case. Agent Tolliver agrees to assist, but a current case at the Navajo Indian Reservation prevents him from leaving. He will send old friend and mentor Eagle Feather in his stead.
