Good book let down by amateur narration.
Also I call bullshit on the audible reviews, after deciding to post my review I had a look to see if I was out of step with my criticism. The first half dozen reviews reflected the very thoughts I had.
So I was surprised the book maintained a 5 star average and scrolled a bit further to see what others thought and could they have even listened to the same audiobook. Lots of bullshit reviews from likely fake users. The Hint was batches of full 5 star reviews on the same date. Come on how likely is that?

Don't buy!!
Dreadful. I bought the book expecting to learn about a fascinating civilisation. Instead what it is a series of lists that really don't make sense. Rulers were elected - then it goes onto the list of kings? Jumps from agriculture to temples without any connection or time line.
I reached the part of the epic of Gilgamesh - and gave up - after an age of listening to the epic being likened to Shakespeare it then launched into some attack on modern alternative views - and still nothing on the epic.
In view of the fact that the history is one of the foundation stones for our civilisations it would appear that the author is dedicated to keeping anything meaningful a secret!
