About this listen
The only way to fight a powerful darkness is with a powerful love
Olivia Moreland prides herself on discrediting charlatans, particularly the false mediums that flock to London. But when Lord Stephen St. Leger requests her help in investigating an alleged psychic's claims, she can't deny the ominous feeling she has within the walls of his ancient estate - or the intimately familiar connection she has with Stephen himself.
The last time he'd called Blackhope Hall home, Stephen had watched as his elder brother claimed both the family title and the woman he loved. Now, in the wake of his brother's murder, Stephen has reluctantly returned to find his family ensconced in scandal. Who is responsible for his brother's untimely death? And what is it about investigator Olivia Moreland that so thoroughly draws him in, reigniting a passion he hasn't felt in years?
Contains mature themes.

Great book but not my favorite narrator
Suspenseful and not your average plot line which makes it a very good read/listening. Narrator is ok but not a favorite of mine

Thoroughly enjoyed this story until the narration required an American accent when the musical timbre in the narrators voice disappeared. Great story withholding my attention all throughout, an unusual occurrence. Will search for more novels from this author.

Mesmerizing!!
This is the third book of Candace Camp’s that I have listened to and each one has been interesting and captivating. As an audio book narration is critical and again the narrator brought the story to life.

An enjoyable book
I really enjoyed the story and characters. The author is a masterful storyteller and I will definitely listen to more of her work, but I'm afraid the narration let this one down a bit.
The narrator has a pleasant sounding voice and his character voices weren't problematic but the tone and inflection of the narration itself was all wrong and out of context through most of the book.
It sounds as though the plot is escalating and he's urgently beseeching the audience when he describes a perfectly mundane scene, for example. It was discombobulating at times!

Victorian gothic spiritualist drama
I liked the idea but it didn’t manage to be as creepy as I expected. Narrator (male) did a good job despite having to do a fair number of female voices which doesn’t usually work.
Oddly, despite Catholic martyrs and rosary beads as well as witchcraft and evil spirits there was not a single reference to the Christian faith of the time in which it was set. Needed a bit of pruning and editing to remove repetition.

I can't listen to this whispering man any longer!
I think I might enjoy the story if not for the performance. He's been okay in other stories, but for this one I guess someone told him to add more expression, so every sentence is given the same up and down musical cadence. Every. Single. Sentence. In a whispery voice for some reason. Just talk man! The story itself seems like a nice change, an unusual premise. I really tried to get used the the narrator but I find myself tuning it out altogether and not taking it in, so as to avoid listening to it.
