Tirsdag den 27. oktober 1992 omkring kl. 01.00 blev mere end 130 flygtninge smuglet ind i Danmark fra en estisk fiskekutter, og det var første gang, der i Østersø-området blev indsmuglet så mange flygtninge på én gang.
Efterfølgende er der til Sverige sket endnu større indsmuglinger af flygtninge, og i den anledning har der været et tæt samarbejde mellem svensk og dansk politi.
