Melissa Joan Hart
About this listen
Melissa Joan Hart explained it all—from dating to bullies—in her groundbreaking role as Clarissa Darling on Clarissa Explains It All. She cast a spell on millions more television viewers as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Now, in Melissa Explains It All, Melissa tells the frank and funny behind-the-scenes stories from her extraordinary past and her refreshingly normal present.
Melissa has been entertaining audiences most of her life; when there were no girls named Melissa on her favorite show, the forceful four year old decided she'd get on TV her way. From that moment on, Melissa has shown a singular determination and focus—whether it's for booking three national commercials so her dad would build her a tree house or for nailing the audition for Clarissa.
From her first commercial to her current starring role in ABC Family's hit Melissa and Joey, Hart never let fame go to her head. She always had one foot in Hollywood and one foot in reality—and still does. Melissa makes us laugh along with her as she talks about:
--guest appearances in shows like Saturday Night Live and The Equalizer
--auditioning for Punky Brewster and Clarissa
--her early Broadway days
--wacky parties she's thrown and attended
-- the actors who influenced her and whom she befriended, worked with and competed against
--her experiences both on and off-set—with Sabrina's Salem the Cat and Elvis the Alligator on Clarissa
--how she met the love of her life at the Kentucky Derby
Melissa Joan Hart explains all that she's learned along the way—what's kept her grounded, normal and working when others have not been so fortunate—and that she's the approachable, hilarious girl-next-door her fans have always thought she'd be.

Starts great but becomes poor
I enjoyed the first two-thirds (ish) of the book immensely; Mellissa was funny, engaging, and insightful. I really got an understanding of who she is - or so I thought.
Abruptly, just at the point she meets her future husband, the writing style, tone of reading and overall feel of the book changed. It became smug, self-satisfying and her voice inflections changed so quickly - from a clever and strong woman to an annoying valley girl waxing lyrical (poorly) about all the great houses she bought, all the great theme parties she threw, an endless section (uninteresting and a total snooze-fest) about American Football. It was a clear switch from one distinct style to another - perhaps the ghost writer gave up at that point? It seemed like she'd given up writing it. Like she just wanted to fill the minimum word count so she could get paid by the publisher.
After the switch, her voice changed tone and inflection; she started rattling it of almost as it was a list, with a positive inflection at the end of most lines before a comma. So infuriating to listen to. Her speaking pattern was so predictable.
Massive shame, as I was really enjoying it, and I was recommending it to other people. Disappointed.

Very honest and insightful
She's a great storyteller! Doesn't leave out any juicy gossip or scandals. Very honest and truthful throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her.
Wish there was more!

Meh
If you’re looking for insight and self realisation - look elsewhere, this feels heavily self edited to portray herself as almost perfect, heavy name drops but no actual insight into anyone or anything. There is even a chapter talking about struggling to come to terms with her husband watching football on the weekends. For a multi decade career; that does not seem like a necessary chapter.

Zzzzzzzzzz
It was painful, too much name dropping and very impersonal. If you don't want to let people in, don't write an autobiography. I nappy story near the end was funny, but not worth the rest of the book.
