About this listen

One of the most significant books ever written by a head of State, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.

An ~1800 year old treasure.

Great words of wisdom. The narration by Duncan Steen is perfect - as simple, uninflected and pragmatic as the meditations themselves.
Recommend as a guided meditation, something to listen to as you go to sleep, inspiring words to start the day.

The narrator channels Marcus Aurelius beautifully and communicates Stoic philosophy very well. A very great work.

Beauty and Truth

Most powerful man on earth in the proper literal sense. Actually killed people with his own hands, surrounded by extremes we can't imagine and as genuine an understanding of having meaningful power as anyone in history, yet so wise, so generous, so deep, so humble, so magnanimous. So great it's difficult to comprehend. A many repeat listen for anyone of substance.

To be a better person

Honestly this book , made me a better person. Yes, it can be confusing with its old wording and references to ancient philosophers. But if you really listen to what they’re saying; it’s can give to peace and mental stability to achieve your own goals.
