About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

What separates the world's most successful entrepreneurs and business tycoons from the rest? It's not their superhuman intelligence. It's something more fundamental: they understand how to turn uncertainty to their advantage.

We all know that the future is inherently unknowable, and yet we behave and plan as though it is. Once we truly understand the nature of uncertainty, though, we can take practical steps to make the most of the opportunities that come our way. In Mastering Uncertainty award-winning author Matt Watkinson and investor and entrepreneur Csaba Konkoly offer a masterclass on the workings of luck and probability. They show how to calculate when to make big bets and when to pull back. And they offer supremely practical advice on how we can improve our odds, whether through maximising our networks, learning how to read warning signs, or assessing where best to place our energies.

The unforeseen always occurs. Mastering Uncertainty shows you how to prepare for it and make the best use of it.

A must-read for founders, leaders and anyone seeking to improve their chances of success in an uncertain world.

When nothing is certain, anything is possible. Mastering Uncertainty by Matt Watkinson and Csaba Konkoly is a gift of a book. So much of our life’s path is determined by chance encounters, being open to opportunities and taking risks. It’s how open we are to all of these, and how prepared we are to lean into uncertainty that can determine our success.

The book is rich in research and practical advice and at times I found myself shouting YES!! in agreement with the authors during several poignant moments in the book. I listened to this book on Audible and went back to listen to some of the chapters again, as there was so much gold in there. Sometimes I had to press pause and just stop. And think. Ideas firing off, notes taken down for actions to implement or to do further reading.
Matt’s narration is calm and his voice friendly and melodic but not sleep inducing like some authors, and I looked forward to my daily dose of hearing his voice during my morning walks.
I’ll definitely be buying the hard cover book as I can’t wait to bookmark all the parts I loved. This is one to keep on the shelf and go back to again and again, as it’s impossible to get all the value out of it on the first read.

Just another generic management book

The author starts off by saying how this book is different from other management/business books, but pretty quickly and consistently turns into the same ol' same stuff. Quotes the same studies, the same popular books/authors that are widely consumed, with a couple of new stories and examples thrown in here and there. If you're new to this type of content then it's worthwhile, but if you're looking for something new, then look elsewhere.
