Publisher's Summary

England, 1346. For Thomas Blackstone the choice is easy - dance on the end of a rope for a murder he did not commit, or join the king's invasion. As he fights his way across northern France, Blackstone learns the brutal lessons of war. Vastly outnumbered, Edward III's army will finally confront the armoured might of the French nobility on the field of Crécy. It is a battle that will change the history of warfare.

Great Story

Loved the narration (except when a male tries a demure French female voice) Apart from that it was a captivating tale read by a very good orator.

very enjoyable

Being a man interested in the migration era to late viking age it is great to read (listen) to a story from the period that follows (well just after norman england). Greatly written and very well narrated.

Rags to riches

Really enjoyed this first book. On reading reviews I wondered what all this Blackstone lark was all about. Now I know, he's da man !

Couldn't finish.

Loved the start, had me for an hour or two, then the "romance" element came about with all the gushiness and swooning associated. A big no thanks from me. i realise it is inclusively writing for an audience, but I like my swords and sandals stuff, gush free. Returned unfinished.
