Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Maskerade is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'There's a kind of magic in masks. Masks conceal one face, but they reveal another. The one that only comes out in darkness....'

The Opera House in Ankh-Morpork is home to music, theatrics and a harmless masked Ghost who lurks behind the scenes. But now a set of mysterious backstage murders may just stop the show.

Agnes Nitt has left her rural home of Lancre in the hopes of launching a successful singing career in the big city. The only problem is, she doesn't quite look the part. And there are two witches who would much rather she return home to join their coven.

Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg have travelled to Ankh-Morpork to convince Agnes that life as a witch is much better than one on the stage. Only now they're caught up in a murder mystery featuring masks and maniacal laughter.

And the show MUST go on....

Maskerade is the fifth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Love the witches series!

Love the series. I prefer the trio with Magrat over Agnes Nitt however the story is intriguing and keeps you interested through the great narration of Indira Varma.

Pratchett/Discworld as you'd expect

Typically hilarious, provocative and stimulating. Great expansion on the relationship between Granny and Nanny. And whether you like or loathe opera, you’ll be laughing at the parallels.
Really good job with the narration.

Always a delight

I love the witches series in Discworld. This book was beautifully written and beautifully read. Pratchett's writing really has no comparison for sharpness and wet.

Everyone Wears a Mask

I LOVE Terry Pratchett's Disc World. I have read all the Disc World books, and what a joy it is now to revisit them as my commute listen. My favourite characters are the witches, I reckon I'd love to have friends like Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax. But then that would likely make me a witch, and what fun that would be.

As always in a Pratchett novel the underbelly of the particular corner of society we're visiting is twisted, turned and exposed with all its little hidden, and often ridiculous, traditions laid bare.

Masquerade delves into the world of Opera. It is not just one thing, it has many superstitions, and rules that must be followed. Let's do a deep dive into this corner of the Arts 🎭 and the many masks people wear. Pratchett, in his inimitable style has fantasticically woven Masquerade into an intricate, suspenseful, interesting and humorous tale, I'd happily recommend you read or listen and no doubt thoroughly enjoy.
