from a different time.
if you love the Mary poppins movie will you love the book? well depends. Mary poppins is characterised very differently is these books. and is does require a certain fondness for 18- early 19th century English culture which for many will be seen as problematic. Mary Poppins isn't necessarily a gentle and kind figure but one who is stern, sharp and commands respect. Especially in today's context with the advancements in educational ethics and codes of conduct, Mary Poppins can come of as an abusive, cold, gaslighting prick. that's however not quite engaging with the text as she's supposed to be the perfect nanny. Both Jane and Michael love her even if she's quite stern. this book is from a different time and if you engage with it on those terms it's delightful. a modern lens though horrific.

great reader terrible book
this book was not enjoyable as I found no plot and a plot is what keeps me reading a book. but I truly did really love the reader accent perfectly betrayed Mary Poppins character and lots of the other characters. also she was the only reason that I kept on listening to look as she was so good at making it expressive and interesting personally I would not choose this book again but that does not mean that you might like a plotless story.

Excellent reading of a classic tale
It was interesting to read the original story after growing up on the beloved Mary Poppins movie then seeing Saving Mr Banks, and knowing how much PL Travers objected to the Mary Poppins film. The magic was recreated for the film while leaving out all the humiliation, shaming, scorn, ridicule and gaslighting by Mary Poppins to Jane and Michael - so well captured, but nonetheless disturbing. Narration was wonderfully skilful.

PERFECT GOVERNESS
THIS is the real Mary Poppins.
I read a review that went along the lines of, "I HATE it. This Mary Poppins is mean," which sold me.
Disney's Mary Poppins sickens me, too sweet and frivolous. Travers Mary Poppins is real. I've seen this woman in childcare and school's (minus the magic). I AM, this woman as an Early Childhood Educator (minus the magic).
This woman allows the children to develop a strength rather than whimsy. It speaks to me, and I understand that it won't for others.
Read this book if you want a real educator with a foot in the door of magic

Mean?
The narrator was good. But I didn’t like Marry Poppins character. She came across quite mean, and this put me off the story completely.
