About this listen
What are the upper limits of human potential?
At the intersection of flow states, mystical experiences, peak performance, and psychedelics lies a mysterious space of possibility. In Mapping Cloud Nine, best-selling author and award-winning journalist Steven Kotler takes us on a heady thrill ride through the history of human potential - and how what we’ve learned so far might unlock even greater levels of creativity, performance, and meaning in our lives.
From Nietzsche to now - a tour of human consciousness
In this six-part audio program, Kotler bridges science and spirituality to explore how our understanding of peak experiences has evolved over time - from early inquiries into altered and mystical states; to the birth of positive psychology and research on high performers; to pioneering studies on meditation and near-death experiences; and into current explorations of psychedelics, flow states, and technological breakthroughs.
A brilliant synthesizer and gifted storyteller, Kotler paints a compelling portrait of our greatest human potential, inspiring us to leverage this growing body of research and step into new realms of possibility.

Great history of the study of flow.
This is a journey through the history of the subject, not a lesson on how to apply it

Absolutely loving this book, I've had it on repeat about 5x already and each time there's more I take in.. there is so much work and reference material that Steven has brought together that there is a lot to take in.. I can't wait to learn more, so grateful for all the challenges we experience, it makes us who we are and if we choose - even better..

Thoroughly enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed Mapping Cloud Nine, my first audio book. The content was knowledgeable, researched and delivered in a concise manner that wrapped up my layman musings and understandings. The authors' voice was enthusiastic and entertaining and was able to hold my attention and focus to the end. Excellent.

Difficult to listen to.
I love Steven Kotlers books particularly the books he narrates. This one was very hard to listen to and had silly errors like “ they used a one way mirror” when discussing the CIA drug surveillance operation. It’s clear no one bothered to edit this Audio version.
This book also contains much of what Stevens other books already cover but in a way that is far less entertaining.
