I love stories. I have mostly told other people's but now, in telling my own, I realize how all our stories are connected by that great leveller of acclaim, loss, fortitude, and fortune: being human.
When I look at my life from the alleged halfway point, some patterns are revealed: one, that the story does not necessarily begin or end where it should; two, happy endings are overrated. And three, happy endings are almost never the end.
This book is memoir-ish. A tell-most. Largely because there's a lot I don't remember, and a lot that's not worth talking about.
So, this is a collection of stories about how things not working out - worked out in the end. How reaching for the dream is easily more interesting, expansive, sad and funny than the dream itself coming true.

I found this surprisingly honest, eloquent and funny. A refreshing and poignant memoir. Minnie is an absolute delight to listen to.

So funny and insightful!
I enjoyed every moment - so glad that I listened to the audiobook. She tells her story with so much humour and sincerity, I don’t think the voice in my head while reading the book could do it justice.

Really enjoyable - written like a story being told
I devour biographies and memoirs, and i remember minnie fondly from Gross point blank etc and more recently a really excellent episode of Modern Love on Prime so i thought i would give this a go.
Really enjoyable, i felt transported in her childhood stories and really wish she would do a Caitlin Moran and turn them into YA - Minnie has a gift for writing!
Beautiful relaxing emotionally charged audio would recommend

Endearing to the end
I found this autobiography thoroughly interesting and deeply endearing. Minnie is a true gem to listen to, not only is she laugh out loud funny but so sincere in her honesty of herself and others. This audiobook is definitely on my repeat list.

Exceeding expectations
This is memoir / essay writing of the highest order.
It would have been a terrific experience reading the print version, but hearing it read by the author - such a talented performer - was exceptionally good.
I didn’t know all that much about Minnie Driver, and I certainly didn’t know she could write - really write. Her control of the form is brilliant. Her life story is funny and moving and occasionally jaw-dropping, and she tells it so well this would be a five-star read from any author, including an unknown plucked from the slush pile. Recommended in the highest possible terms.
