Publisher's Summary

From the Sunday Times best-selling author of Daisy Jones & The Six.
A lifetime holding it together.
One party will bring it crashing down.
Malibu: August, 1983. It's the day of Nina Riva's annual end-of-summer party and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together, the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over—especially as the offspring of the legendary singer, Mick Riva.
The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the centre of attention and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro-tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud—because it is long past time to confess something to the brother from whom he's been inseparable since birth.
Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can't stop thinking about promised she'll be there.
And Kit has a couple secrets of her own—including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.
By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play and the loves and secrets that shaped this family's generations will all come bubbling to the surface.
Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them...and what they will leave behind.

Another epic Taylor Jenkins Reid novel
She knows how to throw a party and how to write a book. I loved this novel as much as I’ve loved the books that came before it. The clever subtlety of characters across all of her novels makes this book feel like an expansion of her already cleverly created universe.

Fantastic storyline
Loved nearly everything about this book. Such an interesting storyline that kept me hooked. Each individual character was so likeable in their own unique way. Highly recommended

Interesting premise, but didn’t get there for me.
Interesting characters and setting, but I felt like all the flashbacks to the past were leading to a really exciting climax but they never did. Very family soap opera but without the drama.

Want to listen again
I loved Malibu Rising and can’t wait for Jenkins Reid to bring out the next book! Taylor’s style of story telling is vivid and clearly defines the human spirit. I was captivated by the beauty of the people and the place. I already miss the characters and may have to start the book again.

Brilliant
Another amazing story from Taylor Jenkins Reid. Love the format how you the story switches between the past and the present day, to the hour. A great performance by the narrator also.

A very good read
Whilst this book is filled with many cliches, even down to the literal swinging from the chandeliers party, and verges on melodrama, it is very well written and moves at a pace which simply draws you in. The development of character and back story is very well done and melds seamlessly with preparations for the party. The insights into family and marital live, whilst typically Californian in their perspective, ring true and make for a very entertaining listen. This is not a book I would normally read, but I really liked it.

Love the narrator, and the weaving of stories, of family, of history, of parenthood and childhood. Spectacular

Heart aching and heart warming.
Malibu Rising is a wholesome novel that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. The raw honesty of what it’s like to live with a parent who battles with addiction following an absentee parent was refreshing and validating. The story in this book is not a tremendous story but the way that it is told is haunting and will stay with me for a long time. This may not be a 5 star book for everyone but I don’t think I’ll be able to forget the way that this book made me feel.
