Awful vocalizations

I have read this book before, and so was looking forward to hearing it. The vocalizations of the characters are appalling. Screeching, ludicrous overly heavy accents that can be barely understood, that just jar the whole story. The narration of the plot is fine, but once the characters speak it's like fingernails down a chalkboard. Very disappointing.
