About this listen

A national best seller on its original publication in 2003, Madam Secretary is a riveting account of the life of America's first woman Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. For eight years, during Bill Clinton's two presidential terms, Albright was a high-level participant in some of the most dramatic events of our time - from the pursuit of peace in the Middle East to NATO's intervention in the Balkans to America's troubled relations with Iran and Iraq. In this thoughtful memoir, one of the most admired women in U.S. history reflects on her remarkable personal story, including her upbringing in war-torn Europe and the balancing of career and family responsibilities, and on America's leading role in a changing world.

With a new epilogue by the author, Madam Secretary offers an inimitable blend of Albright's warm humor, probing insights, and distinctive ideas.

Never destined for an ordinary life

I thoroughly enjoyed Madeleine’s book. She is so eloquent and detailed in this memoir of her efforts to make a positive difference despite the odds against her. I admire her work and her message of support for women. She is a trailblazer in her advocacy for human rights, equality and recognition. Her reading was enjoyable and I believe she has left a great legacy.

A great listen! What a story!

From her early years to her later years of her career. A truely remarkable life story! From inside and outside the office to her talking about executive presence. It has it all! Well done!

So disappointing

Unable to continue listening to this book.
Whilst the author holds an esteemed position in the political world the context of Madeleine Albright's significance is lost.
It would have been better had she not been the narrator. Such a boring unemotional delivery..
