Harriet Hatley is running away from everything.

Getting married.
Her boyfriend’s family.
Her past.

She does it again!

Another amazing book! I thoroughly enjoy this author, her characters, the laugh out loud moments and the longing I feel, when they end! I enjoyed the additional maturity and complexity of this main characters back story in comparisons to some of the others stories by this author :) and another fabulous narrator

Really enjoyed it!

Loved the story, nothing like a rom com story line I’ve read in a while. The friendship between Harriet & Lorna was lovely. I didn’t find it that predictable throughout. Overall easy listen!

not your average romcom novel

I really liked this book. Great characters and an important topic dealt with in a really approachable way. Also really funny in parts too.

Enjoyable and relevant

This was a good story about friend and romantic love, but also a good education into emotional abuse.

Very enjoyable! But… I’ve been thinking…

Man about you kept me intrigued, and I wanted to see what would happen to the bad man. I’m glad he got what he got. The story is well written without concentrating on the new romance for the main character. Keeps you intrigued, and keeps you listening without boring you.

I have now read a number of Mhari’s books, and have now found a common theme. The female main character is always a victim of some man’s poor behaviour. Always. It’s getting a bit dreary. Not all men are coercive, controlling, narcissistic pigs. But there is always the ex that they’re running from who is just like this. It’s rather boring now. The other thing I’ve noticed with all these books is, there is a very quick and tidy ending where they live happily ever after. They spend a few lunches with, rent a room off, work with, or something else like that. There’s no real buildup for the new romance. It just happens near the end.

Another great read from Mhairi

I'm a big Mhairi McFarlane fan and I am going to read all her books. She tries to explore some big issues in this one and whilst I feel like it doesn't quite succeed across the board, I do think it's topical and interesting. As per her other books, I was drawn to keep listening. She knows how to set up the characters and their situation efficiently and get the reader invested.

I didn't like the epilogue but I understand her tradition of deeply happy endings. It just needed more for me to really feel satisfied and convinced by it.

Narrator is excellent, she captures these characters.

A solid, enjoyable rom-com

A great way to pass the time. I enjoyed her literary style the most. The story was cruisy and a bit predictable but that’s not always a bad thing :) I actually grew to love the narrator too. Enjoyed.

Fab!

Beautifully crafted, sensitive, sweet, without being too cheesy, and with some seriously powerful female characters. This book was pure gold.

An important topic

Honestly my son told me, is difficult to achieve. We must not only tell the truth, but speak without trying to illicit a response you want. He was speaking about manipulation and coercion. He had already identified that people find it difficult not to communicate clearly and without an agenda. Great book Mhairi and an important topic to discuss.
