Lukian von Samosata war ein bekannter griechischsprachiger Satiriker der Antike. Er ging anfangs in die Lehre als Bildhauer. Das gab er kurze Zeit später auf, um sich in griechischer Literatur und Rhetorik unterweisen zu lassen. Danach verdiente er sich seinen Lebensunterhalt vermutlich als Gerichtsredner, später dann wohl als freier Schriftsteller. Er bereiste in seinem Leben mehrmals die Mittelmeerwelt. Im höheren Alter nahm er ein Amt beim ägyptischen Statthalter in Alexandria an, wo er mutmaßlich auch verstarb, während er nach anderen Berichten in Athen gestorben sein soll.©2017 SAGA Egmont.
