About this listen
Audie Award Finalist, Classic, 2014
From the Nobel Prize-winning author of One Hundred Years of Solitude comes a masterly evocation of an unrequited passion so strong that it binds two people's lives together for more than half a century.
In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career, he whiles away the years in 622 affairs - yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he does so again.
With humorous sagacity and consummate craft, Gabriel García Márquez traces an exceptional half-century of unrequited love. Though it seems never to be conveniently contained, love flows through the novel in many wonderful guises - joyful, melancholy, enriching, and ever surprising.

A masterpiece
A lyrical, at times both moving and amusing, story of a couple and a society that contains the whole of life. Savour it.

magnificent
This book is so very beautifully written I feel transported every time I listen or read it. I can feel the breeze, the fragrance of perfumes and imagine the courtyards. it is like being in a painting while listening to poetry flowing like a cool spring. It is amazing.

A meander through the ages and stages
If you could sum up Love in the Time of Cholera in three words, what would they be?
delightful, poignant, unpredictable
What other book might you compare Love in the Time of Cholera to, and why?
To date there is nothing quite like it that I've read, the movie 'as good as it gets' deals with similar themes.
What about Armando Durán’s performance did you like?
His accent lent itself very nicely to the blend of Spanish in the text
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, this book is definitely designed for Sunday afternoons sipping a good drink or taking a long bath. It is quite a slow book, though very well written. It deserves the time to soak it in.

Magic for Cooking
This book has been my cooking companion, alone in the kitchen, for more meals for my family than I can count. I finished it in tears. You can’t help but follow along and find your place in the story. I had high expectations and they weren’t immediately met, but they were certainly gently and eventually exceeded. I loved it.
