About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The Stranger Times - winner of the 2023 British Fantasy Award for Best Audio Work!
Love can be a truly terrible thing.
Marriages are tricky at the best of times, especially when one of you is dead.
Vincent Banecroft, the irascible editor of The Stranger Times, has never believed his wife died despite emphatic evidence to the contrary. Now, against all odds, it seems he may actually be proved right; but what lengths will he go to in an attempt to rescue her?
With Banecroft distracted, the shock resignation of assistant editor, Hannah Willis, couldn't have come at a worse time. It speaks volumes that her decision to reconcile with her philandering ex-husband is only marginally less surprising than Banecroft and his wife getting back together. In this time of crisis, is her decision to swan off to a fancy new-age retreat run by a celebrity cult really the best thing for anyone?
As if that wasn't enough, one of the paper's ex-columnists has disappeared, a particularly impressive trick seeing as he never existed in the first place.
Floating statues, hijacked ghosts, homicidal cherubs, irate starlings, Reliant Robins and quite possibly several deeply sinister conspiracies; all-in-all, a typical week for the staff of The Stranger Times.

Not as good as the previous but still leaves me wanting more
Not as good but still leaves me wanting more.
I love that it’s set in Manchester, where I was born as I can visualise the places and reminisce all the way from nz where I am now.

shoutiest so far
Do not operate heavy machinery, perform delicate operations, or lose access to the volume control.
Good fun otherwise, probably the best plot in the series so far. But yes, everyone loves shouting in this one.

Maximum Banecroft
I am not going to say anything about the story apart that it is a worthy successor to The Stranger Times and This Charming Man. If you loved those two books you will be in ecstacy with this one. And if you haven't read or listened to the first two, why not? Go...now! Read or listen to them. if you the works of the immortal Sir Terry Pratchet, Sam Aaronovitch, or Jodi Taylor's St Mary's and Time Police books then these are for you. I'd give it six out of five stars for going the extra mile but it won't let me do that.

So good!
This is probably the slowest book thus far but it is so very well put together. Also Grace sharing made me laugh so hard... that has to be a sign of good character development from the writer and good character work from the performer.

Roller coaster of emotions!
Twists and turns are the order of the day for the stranger times team! Took a couple of chapters to get into but once it got going it didn’t stop! Laughed and cried with this one! Hope the next book welcomes back the characters of Betty and Gordon as I loved these characters!
