About this listen
Austin Romero: No one's fast enough to outrun grief. Trust me, I've tried. I ran away from the city and took a job as the lead detective back in my old home town of Blue Creek, New Hampshire. I expected to bump into past ghosts, but I never expected those ghosts to reopen old wounds.
The biggest ghost of them all: Charlie Marsh. He was the man who had stolen my heart when we were teens, and who now couldn't even remember a single day we had spent together. Which makes it exceptionally awkward when he becomes my first client.
Charlie Marsh: An accident stole seven years of my memories, robbing me of experiences, lessons, people.
It robbed me of my first love. I couldn't remember who Austin even was, much less when and where we shared our first kiss. So when I bumped into the most jaw-droppingly handsome man I'd ever seen, I had no idea we already shared an entire galaxy's worth of history between us.
Second chances aren't always easy, and this one only gets more complicated after finding out that my "accident" wasn't an accident at all, and it seems like someone wants to finish the job. Good thing I've got a hot detective's number on speed-dial.
Contains mature themes.

Suspenseful murder-mystery with an amnesia twist!
If you had the chance to wipe the slate clean on your failed relationship and start again, would you? Austin Romero returns to his hometown of Blue Creek, New Hampshire to establish another Stonewall Investigations office. He quickly runs into Charlie Marsh, his first love and his first heartbreak, only Charlie has changed. Having acquired retrograde amnesia in mysterious circumstances, Charlie has lost about 7 years of memory and can’t even remember Austin, let alone the hurtful way they broke up. Austin is more than willing to start over and offers to look into the mystery that is Charlie’s “accident”, a decision they’ll both come to regret when it puts them in grave danger.
I’ve enjoyed the original and spin-off Stonewall series, so I was pretty sure I’d like this one too. The amnesia trope and the chemistry between Austin and Charlie are well done, I especially enjoyed the unfolding memories and backstories. The multiple murder investigation had some nice suspenseful moments, although we pretty much knew who the murderer was from the get-go and it was just a matter of time before they made their move. 🎧 US veteran voice actor Greg Boudreaux is consistent good, although I felt Austin’s Spanish inflection came and went a bit (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!
