About this listen

The riveting memoirs of the outstanding moral and political leader of our time, Long Walk to Freedom brilliantly recreates the drama of the experiences that helped shape Nelson Mandela's destiny. From his beginning in the Transkei to his being taken to Robben Island, this is the remarkable story of how a man rose so far, only to be sentenced to life imprisonment. Emotive and compelling, this is the story of an epic life.

This audiobook includes a foreword written and read by Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela's Presidential Oath of Office, an afterword from Sharon Gelman, and an interview with Long Walk to Freedom collaborator Richard Stengel.

Must read (or listen)

Long walk to Freedom has absolutely captured me. Nelson Mandela was such a charismatic personality. This book describes in great detail what he and his fellow party members have fought for. Looking at South Africa now, Madiba would be utterly disappointed, though.

Feeling so much respect and admiration.

A total inspiring story, which taught me so much about Mr Mandela and his enormous sacrifice and efforts for the struggle of making sth Africa a land of freedom and equality. Sending a rocket ship to the moon would be a far easier task in comparison. He is one of my hero's

Amazing

I highly regard the autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom" by Nelson Mandela as the finest piece of autobiographical literature I have ever encountered. In my opinion, the profound insights and personal journey depicted in Mandela's memoir warrant it being included as a mandatory component of the education syllabus in both schools and universities. Its inclusion would provide invaluable knowledge and create a greater understanding of humanity's struggles, triumphs, and the enduring spirit of resilience.

AMAZING book, written and narrated very well. The book shows so many facets of life in South Africa, from freedom through a child’s eye to in prisoned for beliefs of a free world, the long walk to freedom tells it how it was and where we, as a global community with such diverse cultural differences, need to be heading to leave a bettered world for our future generations
