About this listen
The riveting memoirs of the outstanding moral and political leader of our time, Long Walk to Freedom brilliantly recreates the drama of the experiences that helped shape Nelson Mandela's destiny. From his beginning in the Transkei to his being taken to Robben Island, this is the remarkable story of how a man rose so far, only to be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Emotive and compelling, this is the story of an epic life. This audiobook includes a foreword written and read by Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela's Presidential Oath of Office, an afterword from Sharon Gelman, and an interview with Long Walk to Freedom collaborator Richard Stengel.

"Enthralling...Mandela emulates the few great political leaders such as Lincoln and Gandhi, who go beyond mere consensus and move out ahead of their followers to break new ground" (Donald Woods in the Sunday Times)

Incredible Life and Historic Memoir
The writing is interesting and absorbing from beginning to end. Having been born in SA in the 60's I thought I knew his story and the ANC struggle for equality. This book gives an account of these efforts from the beginning and is so inspiring. The actor reading this book should have been a South African who would have done a better job of pronouncing many words, names and places correctly. It seems a strange choice to use an American actor. Mandela we will never forget you. Amandla Ngawethu!

Eye Opening
The only thing that would make this book better is if Nelson himself narrated it.
There is so much information in here and things I never knew! I am taking a mini break before listening to part 2 and may even re-listen due to vast amount of information provided.
Brilliant, inspiring and highly informative.
