About this listen
Niall’s never known anything but betrayal. All Mat wants is Niall’s heart. What will it take for him to coax Niall in from the cold?
Mat's connection with Niall is tenuous; one step forward, two steps back. Since that night on the beach Niall's been avoiding Mat like a bad case of the flu - which, ironically, most of his deputies have come down with. What will it take for Niall to truly believe Mat wants him for who he is?
Mat's overworked, Niall's unnerved, and then things really go sideways.
Will a killer destroy everything before Niall realizes they are stronger together than apart?
Long Shadow is a dual POV about a broody introvert and a somewhat patient sheriff. Mat’s going to have to prove to Niall he's the man for him. The Hamarsson and Dempsey series follows the same couple as they find their way to their happily ever after.

Thoroughly enjoyable mystery-romance!
Things are as hectic as ever for Piedras Island Sheriff Mat Dempsey. Most of his deputies are off sick with the flu, arson attacks are on the rise, and disappointingly, there’s something increasingly shady about an old colleague of his father’s. Meanwhile, Mat has been patient with ex-homicide detective Niall Hamarsson who has kept him at arm’s length since their brief liaison. I’m enjoying this police procedural / romance trilogy so much! I love the balance: there’s a slowly growing focus on Mat and Niall’s mutual attraction that doesn’t get in the road of the main mystery or multiple subplots (and quick note, not all storylines resolve here). There are some interesting thrills and spills but they aren’t overdramatised - the low-key tone gives everything a sense of realism that I really appreciate. Best of all, I like the dynamic between the two leads: Niall is the gruff, growling dog, afraid of being kicked again; Mat is the patient handler, who sees the good in Niall and communicates for the both of them. Audio narrator Michael Dean does his always best in bringing these guys to life. Can’t wait for the concluding book!
