LONGLISTED FOR THE CWA GOLD DAGGER AND IAN FLEMING STEEL DAGGER

'The UK's new spy master' Sunday Times

London Rules might not be written down, but everyone knows rule one.

Cover your arse.

Regent's Park's First Desk, Claude Whelan, is learning this the hard way. Tasked with protecting a beleaguered prime minister, he's facing attack from all directions himself: from the showboating MP who orchestrated the Brexit vote, and now has his sights set on Number Ten; from the showboat's wife, a tabloid columnist, who's crucifying Whelan in print; and especially from his own deputy, Lady Di Taverner, who's alert for Claude's every stumble.

Meanwhile, the country's being rocked by an apparently random string of terror attacks, and someone's trying to kill Roddy Ho.

Over at Slough House, the crew are struggling with personal problems: repressed grief, various addictions, retail paralysis, and the nagging suspicion that their newest colleague is a psychopath. But collectively, they're about to rediscover their greatest strength - that of making a bad situation much, much worse.

It's a good job Jackson Lamb knows the rules. Because those things aren't going to break themselves.

Imagery and quips have been mastered

Mick has not let me down with this book, Lambs quips send me into chuckles eg calling a slow horse a dick head or do
I mean egghead lol.the descriptive poem-like prose especially at the end of the book is so evocative (dusk) I’m getting sad now as I’m moving too quickly through the series

A good listen

This is a good story with the old favourites from Slough house. Sean Barrett is a perfect narrator as always. I was disappointed that Mick Heron thought he should add his disgruntled thoughts of a certain famous, well thought of President that is pointless to add to or enhance the story.

Another brilliant Mick Herron and Sean Bartlett collab

I’m addicted to Mick Herron’s books. They are the best modern spy novels, especially when performed by the masterful Sean Bartlett.

A new favourite

Both the author and the narrator make this series a Favourite. Great plots, great characters, and the narration is excellent.
Binge-worthy.

Another great addition to Slow Horse family

As always enthralling story with more twists and turns then a twisty turney thing. Jackson and co deliver yet again. Narration is just wonderful, don’t leave this one behind.

Set my teeth on edge.

I usually can't get enough of the Slough House books, and Sean Barrett's narration. However, with this one Barrett has changed the way he performs the voice of Jackson Lamb, arguably the central character of the series. His voice is irritatingly phlegmy and moist and Lamb sounds like he's about to wheeze his last at any moment. I had to struggle to get through the book because of the squelchy rumblings of Lamb. The story was worth it though; the best Slough House book yet.

Riveting!

Tense action and tight writing—loved this. Narration style is perfectly matched to the grim humour. I’m hooked on this series!

Sharp and witty

I was surprised by this book, took a little while to get into it, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is tight and interesting- the dialogue of the characters is unique and laugh out loud at times, and the narrator is excellent. I’d recommend this book!
