V 1757 godu proslavlen v like svjatyh Pravoslavnoj Rossijskoj Cerkov'ju; pamjat' 21 sentjabrja (po julianskomu kalendarju) i v den' Sobora Sibirskih svjatyh (10 ijunja). Dimitrij Rostovskij proslavilsja kak plodotvornyj cerkovnyj avtor - sostavitel' sbornikov zhitij svjatyh (naibolee izvestnyj, v chetyreh knigah - "Chet'i-Minei"). Rabota nad zhitijami svjatyh byla nachata 6 maja 1684 goda i prodolzhalas' v techenie 20 let. Ispovednicheskij podvig v jazycheskoj Orde knjazja-muchenika Mihaila Chernigovskogo i ego bojarina Feodora 20 sentjabrja 1246 goda imel vselenskoe znachenie. Na vse ugovory okruzhavshih ustupit' trebovaniju hana i poklonit'sja idolam, tem samym sohranit' vlast' i v dal'nejshem posluzhit' Rusi, kak i na prochie lukavye rechi, knjaz' Mihail otvechal: "Ne hochu ja byt' hristianinom tol'ko po imeni, a dela tvorit' jazycheskie". Ustojav pered jetim velikim iskusheniem i ne dav povoda k soblaznu bratii, knjaz' preterpel muchenicheskuju konchinu radi Hrista.
