Publisher's Summary

‘An exciting new voice in thriller fiction. Little Bones is a gripping read!’ Sarah Pinborough, author of Behind Her Eyes

I have three names: I was born Leigh-Ann. I became Cherrie. When I was a child, they called me Little Bones…

My father was Mr Bones – the notorious serial killer of 25 years ago.

As a child I witnessed his crimes.

Everything is different now. I have a new identity. I’m a mother. I am finally free.

Until that podcast. I should never have listened.

They’re linking a recent disappearance to the crimes of the past.

They know who I am. They’re calling me Little Bones again.

They say I’m a villain but I’m not. I’m a victim.

You believe me, don’t you?

A chilling, gripping psychological thriller about escaping a dark past. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell's None of This is True, Gillian McAllister's Wrong Place Wrong Time and twisted TV series like Mindhunter.

Poorly wrtten, poorly read

I finished the book but only out of principle, not out of actual enjoyment.
There were parts that were alright but overall I found the story to be unrealistic, poorly researched and filled with bizarre and unnecessary metaphors and similes. There are too many sections that could have been removed completely that would’ve made no impact on the overall story, e.g. the situation with carnival worker on the ghost train - completely unnecessary.

The behaviour of certain characters in the story is absurdly cruel and aggressive at points and it doesn’t make sense, like the way the police act, the way the “protagonists” partner acts, the way the podcast host interacts with Cherry with wild and in reality, there’s no way he would get away with essentially doxxing someone - that is illegal. To follow on from that point, the plot of this story only works if you ignore the way things work in the real world and in my opinion it makes for a poorly written story. There’s suspension of reality but then there’s this.

The narration also feels quite melodramatic and forced. It feel like they’re trying too hard to be menacing or sad and the delivery of certain parts were kind of laughable and distracted from what was being said.

I don’t want to keep carrying on but there was a lot I didn’t enjoy.

My rating is a 3 but in reality it’s like a 2.5 at best.
