About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before even The Phantom Menace...Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in the High Republic.

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.

Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbours a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi's heart.

Excellent first installment

A must-read for Star Wars fans.Top notch narration. The ending felt a little abrupt, though.

Awesome

Great story and set up for this era in the star wars universe! Performance was great loved Lodens voice in particular. Not a big fan of avar's voice sounded like an old fuddy duddy not a bad ass jedi! The rest of the voices were good definitely recommend

Light of the Jedi - A must read for any SW fan

Light of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule and narrated by Marc Thompson, is a must read Star Wars Adult novel.

Set a few hundred years before TPM, I highly doubted that this new era alongside this novel will be any good due to a lack of any dark side characters, meaning no 'true' lightsaber fights. But OH MY! How I misjudged this novel and this era of the High Republic.

The novel is successful in sucking the audience in for more, alongside the first third of the novel including a major event that is spoken majorly in many other High Republic pieces. Light of the Jedi is enjoyable, and is a flame for many other books for this new but ancient era.

I highly recommend it and remember... we are the republic.

May the force be with you.

A solid step in the right direction.

The book starts off a little slow, and becomes tedious at times.
But as it develops it becomes rather enjoyable.
The addition of a new enemy aside from the usual Sith empire is a welcomed change.
The book doesn't rely too heavily on individual characters, most are forgettable with a few exceptions.
The deaths of jedi masters seems to pass like the wind with little to no real pause, which considering the history, you would think they would put more into that line following it up.

But it was a pleasant 13 hours and I look forwards to the next book

overall interesting story

Can become quite confusing at times, especially hard with all the unusual names and how quickly they are introduced. Over all though it is quite a different and thrilling story.

Leaves you hanging

The story was okay but they should be a book 2. This book let you know what the Jedi could do (more than what they could do in the movies) and what they are about. a 2nd book could be a great story.

Excellent.

I found it a great storyline explaining how the hyperspace wars started, and doesn’t overdo the fact that the old republic and the Jedi order were far from perfect. The idea that the Jedi were failing and turning to the dark side if they became enraged by attack on the weak by pitiless predators is eloquently refuted. Great read and well written and performed.

An attempt

Marc Thompson is an incredible narrator and voice actor, hands down he is what makes Star Wars audio books excellent.

This new era of the ‘High Republic’ has so much promise and potential but based on this first book, we’re back to having inexplicable, hyperspace super weapons that destroy things instantly. Surprisingly there is no satisfactory explanations as to why this method was not used for the destruction of the Death Star’s, Starkiller Base or even under the Tarkin Doctrine to generate fear amongst insurgents and Rebels. It really is a breakpoint for Star Wars, hyperspace is a crucial component to the Sci-Fantasy and making a inconsistent universe sandwich is lore-breaking and tells us that some people don’t care about the rules that this universe’ creator, George Lucas, made.

Lastly if anyone has read this far, the characters are okay and seem to be thought out with actual story arcs, I don’t feel any connection to them yet and struggle to remember their names but hopefully listening to more from this era they will gain more dimensions and become more iconic.
