About this listen

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “This will be one of your favorite books of all time. Through her intensely vulnerable, honest, and hilarious reflections, Chelsea shows us more than just her insides. She shows us ourselves.”—Amy Schumer

Don’t miss Chelsea Handler’s new Netflix stand-up special, Revolution, now streaming!

In the wake of President Donald Trump’s election, feeling that her country—her life—has become unrecognizable, Chelsea Handler has an awakening. Fed up with the privileged bubble she’s lived in, she decides it’s time to make some changes.

She embarks on a year of self-sufficiency and goes into therapy, prepared to do the heavy lifting required to make sense of a childhood that ended abruptly with the death of her brother. She meets her match in an earnest, nerdy shrink who dissects her anger and gets her to confront her fear of intimacy. Out in the world, she channels her outrage into social action and finds her voice as an advocate for change. With the love and support of an eccentric cast of friends, assistants, family members (alive and dead), and a pair of emotionally withholding rescue dogs, Chelsea digs deep into the trauma that shaped her inimitable worldview and unearths some glittering truths that light up the road ahead.

Thrillingly honest and insightful, Chelsea Handler’s darkly comic memoir is also a clever and sly work of inspiration that gets us to ask ourselves what really matters in our own lives.

Critic Reviews

“The Chelsea Handler I know is a take-no-prisoners activist for the causes she believes in. She brings the same fearlessness and commitment to telling her truth in this book. I’m hoping that one day, in exchange for this blurb, she will let me see the security camera footage of the dog fight in her bedroom.” (Trevor Noah)

So so so good.

As above.

I loved it to bits. I wish these reviews didn’t have a word minimum.

Everything you would expect and more

I personally love Chelsea and all her work but if you're a fan like me you have probably heard a lot of these stories before, still a good read though

Worth it

Everyone knows Chelsea for being funny. Whilst this book has bits which are funny, I found myself more glued to listening and obsessed with the honesty of her life stories. I relate so much to her and admire everything she's accomplished. I particularly, after reading this book, feel like I've learnt so much and need to evaluate some things myself - I feel like that was one of the purposes of this book.
This is absolutely a book I'll read time and time again, and I highly recommend it - especially for someone who is slightly older and reevaluating their lives.

Authentic Chelsea

I love this book it’s raw and candid just like Chelsea always is.
yet so much deeper, so much more of who she is and who she’s becoming and not only do I think it’s a beautiful book but it makes me want more and really want to better myself in many ways too.
Thanks Chelsea

A very pleasant surprise

I’ve read all of Chelsea’s books, she is funny and endearing and real. This book talks about how she has worked through some big issues and how it has ultimately shaped her. She takes very heavy subject matter and still manages to deliver it with humour and a lightness. This lightness doesn’t cheapen or wash away the message, rather it makes it easier to absorb and digest. I really recommend this book.

Amazing!

This book is an incredible telling of Chelsea’s life which is very raw and authentic. Of course I’m familiar Chelsea style there are comedic elements to her book but she also opens up and lets reader in to another side of her life. Highly recommend!

Great book - I laughed and I cried!

Chelsea is so easy to listen to, not to mention hilarious. Chelsea's story is quite emotional at times - very real and very raw, however she has an uncanny ability to still weave humour throughout. Overall a great read.
