About this listen
Isaac Vainio is a Libriomancer, a member of the secret organization founded five centuries ago by Johannes Gutenberg. Libriomancers are gifted with the ability to magically reach into books and draw forth objects. When Isaac is attacked by vampires that leaked from the pages of books into our world, he barely manages to escape. To his horror he discovers that vampires have been attacking other magic-users as well, and Gutenberg has been kidnapped.
With the help of a motorcycle-riding dryad who packs a pair of oak cudgels, Isaac finds himself hunting the unknown dark power that has been manipulating humans and vampires alike. And his search will uncover dangerous secrets about Libriomancy, Gutenberg, and the history of magic....

Fun
A fun book with an interesting “magic” system. Will have to see how the rest of the series go.

A bit of Ho Hum
Here are my main takeaways for this audiobook (I purchased the audio instead of reading)
1) The performer's use of female voices was grating. He made them either sound whiny or in the throws of orgasm. Soft and breathy doth not a female voice make. And don't get me started on the main female character - very much "whiny orgasm" with "I fulfil the desires of whatever random person comes along" thrown in - Sheesh! What a bad character.
2) If the main character is not too interesting then maybe a narrator in the 1st person isn't a good option. Hint: The main character was painfully written.
3) The magic system . . . Sounded cool until you realise you need to have a book on you to access the magic. I could not get over him having to carry around paperbacks in his pockets. I'm glad he didn't want to use a book by Brandon Sanderson at 1500+ in his jeans pocket (maybe he was wearing Jodhpers that were really stretchy)
4) Before purchase, I wish I knew that this was mainly a book about vampires as I would have steered clear of it. It really is a compendium of all the tropes (I suppose that is because they were formed from Libriomancy books)
5) What is it about Americans and their cars? Lengthy descriptions of cars and how much they mean to the main character is bloody boring if you come from a country where they are seen as a tool to get around and not an addendum to your psyche.
6) A fire spider - urgh! Simply a bad choice for familiar.
I will not be continuing on with this series. The premise lured me in, but failed to deliver. When I found myself constantly looking at the "time remaining" see how much more of the story there was to go, I knew it was not a good sign.
