About this listen
His world was water and rhythm. Hard work and drive kept Royal O'Connell one step ahead of his competition. His spot on the swim team, keeping his scholarship, was the only plan that mattered.
His world was ebony and ivory. Natural talent and ambition set Camden Morgan apart from the other music majors. His dedication scored him a full ride.
Normally, their paths would have never crossed...but when Royal meets his best friend's new roommate, his big plan and Camden's controlled environment faces a variable that could destroy it all: attraction.
The world they live in had no room for error. That undeniable pull between them was dangerous, and neither one of them could've prepared for the choice they'd have to make.
Love isn't always an easy road, and when everything they've worked for is on the line, they'll have to decide if being together is worth the risk.
Contains mature themes.

Beautiful
A beautiful story of love and courage and growing up. A. M. Johnson writes beautiful prose, no words wasted, missed, or stumbled over.

Beautifully written and narrated!!!
Piano composer, Camden Morgan is caught up in his own world, barely interacting with his fellow students. He shares a college suite with the boisterous captain of the swim team and the two get on each other’s nerves. But when he meets his roommate’s best friend and fellow swimmer, Royal O’Connell, he finds me doesn’t mind letting Royal get under his defences. Royal is confused by his feelings for Camden, he’s never been attracted to another guy before, but he just can’t keep away.
I’ve loved all of AM Johnson’s books and this one is such a lyrical sports romance with so many beautifully written passages, especially the descriptions of Camden’s playing and performing! It’s also a gentle and very moving story with Camden learning to shake off the critical voices of his aggressive mother and ineffectual father while Royal summons the courage to own his feelings both privately and publicly with mixed results. Both young men are incredibly decent guys and I loved spending time with them and the secondary characters—so looking forward to Indie (Royal’s sister) and Kai’s story next. 🎧 Teddy Hamilton (as Royal) and Aaron Shedlock (as Camden) are such star performers, they took this great book to another level!

Good read, but I wanted more?
I enjoyed this a lot. Teddy Hamilton is a phenomenal narrator as per usual and Aaron Shedlock does a fantastic job also. However, the story felt a little flat. The overall pace was good and the characters were interesting, but things like Royal's obsession with words never seem to actually feel present. Because of this, I'm giving it a three. I can't tell you what else is wrong with it but I felt like something was missing. I recommend this, but it doesn't sit in my top favourites.
