About this listen
'I see my story as a suite of songs that have a magical connection. I never understood that connection until I sat down to write. It was then that the magic started to flow.'
Let Love Rule is a work of deep reflection. Lenny Kravitz looks back at his life with candor, self-scrutiny and humour.
'My life is all about opposites,' he writes. 'Black and white. Jewish and Christian. The Jackson 5 and Led Zeppelin. I accepted my Gemini soul. I owned it. I adored it. Yins and yangs mingled in various parts of my heart and mind, giving me balance and fueling my curiosity and comfort.'
Let Love Rule covers a vast canvas stretching from Manhattan's Upper East Side, Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant, Los Angeles's Baldwin Hills, Beverly Hills, and finally to France, England and Germany. It's the story of a wildly creative kid who, despite tough struggles at school and extreme tension at home, finds salvation in music. We see him grow as a musician and ultimately a master songwriter, producer and performer.
We also see Lenny's spiritual growth - and the powerful way in which spirit informs his music. The cast of characters surrounding Lenny is extraordinary: his father, Sy, a high-powered news executive; his mother, Roxie Roker, a television star; and Lisa Bonet, the young actress who becomes his muse.
The central character, of course, is Lenny, who, despite his great aspirational energy, turns down record deal after record deal until he finds his true voice. The creation of that voice, the same voice that is able to declare 'Let Love Rule' to an international audience, is the very heart of this story.
'Whether recording, performing, or writing a book,' says Lenny, 'my art is about listening to the inspiration inside and then sharing it with people. Art must bring the world closer together.'
This program includes performances of the lyrics that appear in the book. These include Lenny's songs (performed with original instrumentation), as well as songs from his childhood, rhymes he sang with his Grandma Bessie and hymns he performed with his high school choir.

My world Lenny
When I was 7years old I first seen Lenny on rage and feel in love instantly. There was something special and unique and captivating about Lenny and he became my world. Years latter in my early twenties I got the chance to see Lenny In Sydney it was the best concert I have ever seen. He even touched my hand while walking around the crowd at the end of the concert so humble best night of my of my life. 28 I had my son and yes I named him Lenny. I love this book so much and love that Lenny kravitz himself is reading it. Sister is my favourite song of all time. Hearing your life story from Lenny himself is brilliant what a beautiful story journey. Thank you for sharing your life and I have recommended this book to everyone I know. I’m your biggest fan. Lenny thank you for making my life so much more special. And my son is 9 years old and so proud to be named after you I always tell him your unique your the man your lenny.

To all the sisters & brothers
It was an enjoyable journey, well written and filled with what came across as a raw, honest, and very entertaining reflection of a life well lived.
There is something fascinating about the number of opportunities Lenny had been presented with, which he declined to pursue. Using his gut to guide him.
The determination to stick to his convictions and go against the grain of all who wanted to control him & his creative outputs is admirable.
To anyone out there marching to their own creative rhythm, I'm certain you will find Lenny's autobiography relatable & a joy to read / listen to.
Let love rule.

Pretty tame
Focuses a lot on his childhood/teens and seems to end in his 20s. Not a whole lot to write home about. Lenny is cool but I wasn’t blown away by this one.

Where is the rest of it
Um, did Lenny get bored and loose interest in writing his memoirs? So much missing. Are you gonna go my way isn’t even mentioned?! I’m very confused.
