About this listen
This Audiobook will take you through the basics of German with Basic Bootcamp, All About, and Pronunciation lessons. The five Basic Bootcamp lessons each center on a practical, real-life conversation. At the beginning of the lesson, we'll introduce the background of the conversation. Then, you'll hear the conversation two times: one time at natural native speed, and one time with English translation. After the conversation, you'll learn carefully selected vocabulary and key grammar concepts. Next, you'll hear the conversation one time at natural native speed. Finally, practice what you have learned with the review track. In the review track, a native speaker will say a word or phrase from the dialogue, wait three seconds, and then give you the English translation. Say the word aloud during the pause. Halfway through the review track, the order will be reversed. The English translation will be provided first, followed by a three-second pause, and then the word or phrase from the dialogue. Repeat the words and phrases you hear in the review track aloud to practice pronunciation and reinforce what you have learned.
In the 15 All About lessons, you’ll learn all about German and Germany. Our native teachers and language experts will explain everything you need to know to get started in German, including how to understand the writing system, grammar, pronunciation, cultural background, tradition, society, and more!
The five Pronunciation lessons take you step-by-step through the most basic skill in any language: how to pronounce words and sentences like a native speaker. You’ll go from basic concepts to advanced tips and will soon sound like you’ve been speaking German your entire life.

Mein zimmer ist 123
Visiting Germany for the first time, I was a little embarassed that I was unable answer the waiter correctly at breakfast. The waiter asked for my room number, and I said that I would like a white coffee. Understanding that I did not understand the question, the waiter switched to English and flawlessy asked for my room number. From that day, I promised to myself that I would invest some time to understand and respond to the simplest of dialogues.
This audio is a great pre-cursor to commencing your German language journey. Each of the lessons are well paced, and the narrators are easy and fun to listen to. I especially enjoyed the grammar explanations, and the pronounciation guides. There is a lot of information to absorb, so I'll be doing another lap of select chapters.
The accompanying manual is well laid out and easy to follow; however, some of the resource links are no longer available, but I'm sure that I will be able to find the information elsewhere. I listened to the whole audio book whilst walking with my dogs, so there is no need to be at your desk to listen to the audio.
Half way through the book I thought to myself, there seems to be a lot of English, and not much German, but by the end it became apparant that the narrators are laying the foundation for future lessons.
In summary, I would recommend this audio book for the new learner of German, or those who want to revise basics and structure. Now I have the foundation, and can count in German, I would like to go back and answer the waiter with 'Mein zimmer ist 123' Happy reading/listening!
