A great way to learn to speak Danish

A book like this allows the student to learn Danish sentences in context. This is what I do: start with a story and try to memorize the text. I listen and repeat small sections over and over again. For one thing this greatly helps me with pronunciation. But it will also helps me to build vocab and gain a better understanding of how Danish sentences are constructed. By memorizing the passages I find that I am building a mental library of expressions that I can use in real conversations.

A while ago I go interested in the concept language learning technique of sentence mining. So I downloaded the app Anki and a deck with thousands of Danish sentences. While this was helpful I felt it was missing something because each sentence stood completely alone. If you are going to memorize sentences why not make it easier on yourself and learn them as part of a story.

This might seem overwhelming, memorizing so much text. But its fine. You really need to say the same sentence over and over again (hundreds of times) for it to properly sink in. You don't want to be doing word for word translations in your head. Instead you need to feel it. Musicians do this with musical passages. They repeat what they are trying to learn over and over again, to the point that the develop muscle memory. That way when they play piece instead of processing the music one note at time they let it just pour out.

By the way I haven't memorized these stories yet. But I have with other Danish stories I have found on the net. And I have made so much progress way. My Danish friend was amazed last time I spoke to her in Danish. So I am very happy to have come across another story I can use to help me continue my learning.

I have listened to the first story and the speaker has a lovely clear voice and speaks at a slow pace suitable for a learner of Danish.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
