À Larvik, l'été est là. Six mois se sont écoulés depuis la disparition de Jens Hummel et son taxi sans qu'aucun indice n'ait permis de faire avancer l'enquête de Wisting. Sa fille, Line, est revenue s'installer dans cette jolie ville côtière, à deux pas de chez lui, et elle profite de son congé maternité pour retaper la maison qu'elle vient d'acheter. Coup sur coup, deux événements surviennent qui offrent à Wisting une nouvelle piste à suivre. Mais les fils que son équipe et lui tirent viennent fragiliser une autre affaire dont le procès doit commencer sous peu. Affrontant les réticences de sa hiérarchie, et malgré l'imminence de l'accouchement de Line, Wisting suit jusqu'au bout son instinct de flic.
