About this listen
DI Tom Thorne must discover the link between these killings and a murder/suicide that took place twenty-five years before; a tragedy to which the only witnesses were two small children, now adults and nowhere to be found...
How can you escape a past that will do a lot more than just catch up with you?
And how can Thorne catch a killer, when he doesn't really care about the victims?©2003 Mark Billingham (P)2006 Time Warner AudioBooks

Best in the Thorn series yet
I’ve been looking forward to this book because I love Robert Glenisters narration - didn’t disappoint!
The book is a little moodier and darker… the suspense ratcheted up.
My only complaint is the use of musical stings to bridge the passages. Every time they were edited in it created a huge disconnect. It’s an audio book and I want to immerse myself into the story.
So, to the producers: please don’t insert these annoying stings. I just want to hear a brilliant story read by a first class voice artist.

Do not waste your money on abridged books
The story was probably a good one, originally. The bones are there, but the unkind editing rendered it firstly haphazard, then blindingly obvious whodunnit.
Considering the price for unabridged is exactly the same as abridged, I will not consider any further chopped novels.
Narration was mostly excellent (although I do wish Me Glenister would lose the habit of mispronouncing "Denise" as De knees), and as previously stated in other reviews of this author, the scene-change music is loud, jarring, and horrible.
