About this listen
John Howard is the second longest serving prime minister in Australia's history. His tenure lasted almost 12 years. His autobiography is essential reading for those interested in contemporary politics, in Australian history or the craft of practical politics. John Howard spent decades under media scrutiny, and while his credentials as a political leader, devoted family man and sports tragic are beyond dispute, in this autobiography he reveals much more about himself.
In Lazarus Rising, Howard traces his personal and political journey, from childhood in the post-World War II era through to the present day, painting a fascinating picture of a changing Australia. Lazarus Rising is history seen through the eyes of the ultimate insider; an account of a 30-year political career. No prime minister of modern times has reshaped Australia and its place in the world as forcefully as John Howard. As part of his reform agenda he privatized Telstra, dismantled excessive union power and compulsory trade union membership, instituted the unpopular Goods and Services Tax, and established the 'work for the dole' scheme.

Very interesting political insights
A birds eye view Into the workings of a successful political brain. The reasoning behind policy decisions and discussions about tactical manoeuvres in politics were interesting. I enjoyed the contents of the book and I thought it was good value for for money.

What world leaders have to endure.
A bit stretched out with mention of so many parliamentarians and what sets they held, which is irrelevant if not in politics.
Could have been 18 chapters.

Fascinating Insight from a True Leader.
A long and very detailed book which at times became very technical around politics and policy however if you like that stuff, this is for you. John Howard was honest and forthright and even at times extremely self critical which lead me to trusting his thoughts and recollections with minimal question. A long and distinguished career brought together and described by a pure intellect. I love the fact John Howard was also the Narrator. It was like he was in the living room talking directly to you.

In Depth Personal Description of Full Career of JH
This is a long book. The delivery by John Howard himself though, makes it very interesting and rewarding to listen to. Mr. Howard's reading style is consistent and engaging.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to every Australian. As an immigrant and being young during part of his tenure as PM, it was very interesting to learn the back story of many events. The waterfront dispute is one I particularly enjoyed.
In my view, too much time was given to the Costello conflict, but it was clearly important to the author to present his side of the story.
I learned a lot about many aspects of leadership and Australian history.
I highly recommend this book.

Exceptional insight into the career of my favourite PM
Being born in the early 90’s, John Howard was the only PM I truly knew. It’s hard to get to know current PM’s due to the sad revolving door of leaders. His governance and ability to make sensible decisions is why he was such an incredible leader. His ability to support the opposition on sensible policies even when in opposition is something that is never seen these days. This book delves into the behind the scenes of his career and provides insight into areas I wasn’t even aware he had supported or championed. I hope he releases an audio version of the Menzies Era.
