About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

Across the warp storms of the Great Rift, a distress beacon calls for aid. The Rock is listening, for the Dark Angels have only their oaths to remind them of who they are.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

See what happens when the Dark Angels encounter a planet that might have even more secrets than they do! Can Master Lazarus cope with discovering what it really means to be defined by your oaths?

THE STORY

Supreme Grand Master Azrael summons Lazarus and his Fifth Company to honour an old debt on the Knight world of Reis – a planet upon which the warp has set its hungry gaze.

But Lazarus is not so sure Reis wants to be saved – its Knights are long lost, its governance is dogged by political strife, and internecine conflict hampers the world’s defence against an ancient evil. An evil which, like Lazarus himself, refuses to die.

The interaction of Grand Master Azrael and Master Lazarus

The tease at the end gave us the returned lion but didn’t give us any interaction with his chapter after his return

Looking for a sequel to The Lion; son of the Forest?
You're in the wrong place. This story takes place prior to Lionel Johnson being recovered.

A star among mediocre new Black Library titles

An excellent story for any Dark Angel fan. Narrative and characterisation take a front role while "astartes" this and "primaris" this take a welcome backseat

So boring you’ll wish he stayed dead

I really tried, believe me I did. But the writing is so terrible I could not get past the first 2 chapters.

Turns out Lazarus was such a pointless and boring character the writer didn’t even like him - because he sure didn’t like writing this book. After the first chapter I got so tired of hearing the voice actor proclaim “FOR THE LION”, that I can regretfully say that I started to wish he hadn’t returned either. Throwing that line in every time a space marine gets an order or is about to explode an orcs head is not good writing. It’s a terrible lazy tactic these GW exclusive writers use to get their word count up because they can’t write an interesting story!
Perhaps it gets better, but I sincerely doubt it. Horrible book, don’t bother.
