Publisher's Summary

New York Times Best Seller

Han Solo and Lando Calrissian are reunited on the Millennium Falcon in a galaxy-spanning novel inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story. But even the fastest ship in the galaxy can’t outrun the past...

THEN:

It’s one of the galaxy’s most dangerous secrets: a mysterious transmitter with unknown power and a reward for its discovery that most could only dream of claiming. But those who fly the Millennium Falcon throughout its infamous history aren’t your average scoundrels. Not once, but twice, the crew of the Falcon tries to claim the elusive prize - first, Lando Calrissian and the droid L3-37 at the dawn of an ambitious career, and later, a young and hungry Han Solo with the help of his copilot, Chewbacca. But the device’s creator, the volatile criminal Fyzen Gor, isn’t interested in sharing. And Gor knows how to hold a grudge....

NOW:

It’s been 10 years since the rebel hero Han Solo last encountered Fyzen Gor. After mounting a successful rebellion against the Empire and starting a family with an Alderaanian princess, Han hasn’t given much thought to the mad inventor. But when Lando turns up at Han’s doorstep in the middle of the night, it’s Fyzen’s assassins that he’s running from. And without Han’s help, Lando - and all life on Cloud City - will be annihilated.

With the assistance of a young hotshot pilot, an Ewok slicer prodigy, the woman who might be the love of Lando’s life, and Han’s best and furriest friend, the two most notorious scoundrels in the New Republic are working together once more. They’ll have to journey across the stars - and into the past - before Gor uses the device’s power to reshape the galaxy.

Not as memorable as some others but worth a listen

I tend to pick my star wars audiobooks based on if or not Marc Thompson is narrating them. The voice characterisation in his performances is outstanding. Not to say that other narrator's aren't good but he really brings the stories to life in the feel of original trilogy of episode 4, 5, 6. Swapping narration between Marc, January and Daniel was a little distracting at first, but if you're sceptical going into this book based on other people's review, it might help to know that January is narrating flashbacks or back stories of Lando and Daniel is doing the same for Han. Daniel especially came across as though you're listening to him over a couple drinks at a bar as he recounts something he witnessed years ago. Anyway, they aren't telling those flashbacks as if they are happening either, more like memories told from an observers perspective. I found it heaps easier to keep going by looking at it from this point of view. Marc is the "current day" storyline as it's happening.

Good story, o.k performance

the story was pretty good, if you are a star wars fan who wants to delve deeper into the details of the star wars universe between the trilogies, this is one of those stories!

The story was pretty dark, and what I don't like is that the intense moments in the story are so un-realistic, that it is just annoying. the most important characters become so close to death, that's its stupid, and in reality, the chance of surviving such things are one in a thousand. but its just a story I guess.

performance was o.k. Marc Thompson was very good at expressing the dramatic parts of the story, and it was nice to listen to. but Daniel Jose Older was not very good. At the serious moments or dramatic moments, he sounded like it was funny, making the scene seem pretty badly performed.

other than that all g.

Fun but a little confusing

A good story but with its multiple timelines and perspectives maybe not ideal for audio storytelling. They seem to be aware of this and have used a different narrator for each timeline but it still takes some getting used to.
The main narrator is fantastic, his Han voice very good and his Lando isn’t far behind.
The other narrators are good, one especially seems to be throughly enjoying the opportunity, you can HEAR the smile on his face.
Sound effects and music are obviously great and not over used.

Space-lego and a coffee snob droid...

This is a genuinely funny book. Imagine Han walking over space-lego, dealing with a coffee snob droid. Han and Lando had so many witty lines. There was a moment where I was laughing out loud while on my morning walk, and people looked at me as if I was nuts. Well, what else can I say? It was funny, and it had an excellent level of stakes.

No matter what you say, the Phylanx Redux Transmitter has to be an image to Star Trek's Borg.

Do not waste your time

This is the worst dialogue of any Star Wars book. Un-necessary detail and over use of alien terms and really cheesy male female interaction that left me wondering if I was listening to a book from the early 1950’s. The characters are so overdone and one dimensional and provide no insight into who they really are or build on past development.
