Publisher's Summary
Two best friends. One missed chance. And a night that changes everything.
Eve, Justin, Susie and Ed have been friends since they were 18. Now in their 30s, the four are still as close as ever, Thursday pub quiz night is still sacred and Eve is still secretly in love with Ed.
Maybe Eve should have moved on by now, but she can’t stop thinking about what could have been. And she knows Ed sometimes thinks about it, too.
Then one night, in an instant, all their lives change forever. And, as Eve learns she didn’t know her friends as well as she thought, she also discovers she isn’t the only person keeping secrets....

Loved it
I was a bit hesitant about this one because some of the reviews were mixed and it's not my usual genre.
I absolutely LOVED this book. The characterisation was superb and I honestly felt like they were all my friends. I was completely invested in their world. I am still thinking about the characters days after finishing it and wish I could keep following their journey. Yes, as some of the other comments say, there is a very sad part around 1/4 of the way in but the book as a whole has a warm and satisfying ending and the journey is worth it. You can even skip over the most heart-wrenching bit and otherwise keep up with the story. It is also laced with good humour throughout to keep things a bit light during dark times. Highly recommend!!!!!!

Really enjoyed the storyline and the narrator. This is a book that’s hard to put down once you start. Gets you in right from the beginning.

Sad, but good. Something different from the author
Enjoyed this, even though I cried at times. It's something a bit different to Mhairi McFarlane I've listened to. Narration was more of a reading than a performance, I understand other people's confusion about what was dialogue, what was inner narrative and what was description, but it didn't confuse me greatly.

Brilliantly written
Mhairi is so good with words. The first half of the book is heavy and hard to swallow, but worth it. A very well written and interesting story.

Another Beautifully Written Book by Mhairi
I loved this book for how honest it was and how aptly it gave words to the universal themes of grief and forgiveness.
I cried, I laughed and I got pretty introspective, because this book had the beauty of not being a mere flight of fantasy but rather, one packed with wisdom on a myriad of issues. I have a feeling that this is the kind of book you read at different points in your life and find it resonates a little differently each time than it did before.
The characters were so full of depth and were brave in ways that challenge the reader to look over their life and ponder in what ways they too need to be brave.
My only sadness was how quickly it was over, because I would have read fifty more chapters!
Well done Mhairi!
