Group biography of American reporters
A long listen which covers a lot of ground.
worth listening to because it provides a kaleidescopic perspective on the events of the 1930s, that focuses on Europe but also takes in USA, China, India & Soviet Russia, including UK imperialism & American racism. It tells the story of how a group of men and women created a style of international reporting that shaped the times they lived in, as well as the opinion editorial, and lived the injunction "everything is copy". Some cameos of extraordinary people, like Mickey Kahn in Shanghai and Rebecca West - both who outlived them all. The frankness with which which they discussed their marriages, lovers, addictions & psychoanalyses was an insight in how relationships were conducted in 1930s. I found the reading somewhat overly arch and listened at 1.15 speed.
