Publisher's Summary
Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2019
Not far from London, there is a village.
This village belongs to the people who live in it and to those who lived in it hundreds of years ago. It belongs to England's mysterious past and its confounding present.
It belongs to Mad Pete, the grizzled artist. To ancient Peggy, gossiping at her gate. To families dead for generations, and to those who have only recently moved here.
But it also belongs to Dead Papa Toothwort who has woken from his slumber in the woods. Dead Papa Toothwort, who is listening to them all.
Chimerical, audacious, strange and wonderful - a song to difference and imagination, to friendship, youth and love, Lanny is the globally anticipated new novel from Max Porter.

interesting story and concept
This is an unusual story in that it kept me guessing as to what was going on. I found that as the concept developed it got more intriguing and interesting and felt I was finally getting a good grasp of what was going on when it stopped.
It is a short book I think could have continued further but ended and left me feeling much like a movie that you know has been deliberately set up for a sequel. I found the book more intriguing than enjoyable.

Well written but left me dissatisfied
This book was a real page turner for me in Part A - there was so much potential with the character delvelopment and suspense about what was going to happen - however by Part C I had become disengaged, as it went a bit too weird for me. It was written beautifully, however in all it was not really my cup of tea.
