About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the Sunday Times best-selling Author of The Salt Path and The Wild Silence.

The latest memoir from global bestselling author Raynor Winn.

Some people live to walk. Raynor and Moth walk to live...

Raynor Winn knows that her husband Moth's health is declining, getting worse by the day. She knows of only one cure. It worked once before. But will he—can he?—set out with her on another healing walk?

The Cape Wrath Trail is over two hundred miles of gruelling terrain through Scotland's remotest mountains and lochs. But the lure of the wilderness and the beguiling beauty of the awaiting glens draw them northwards. Being one with nature saved them in their darkest hour and their hope is that it can work its magic again.

As they set out on their incredible thousand-mile journey back to the familiar shores of the South-west Coast Path, Raynor and Moth map the landscape of an island nation facing an uncertain path ahead.

In Landlines, she records in luminous prose the strangers and friends, wilderness and wildlife they encounter on the way—it's a journey that begins in fear but can only end in hope.

The journey continues

Loved these new chapters in Moth and Ray’s story. All Ray’s stories are beautifully told and I loved the sounds of them making tea too!

Exceptional book.

I loved Raynor writing style and have listened to the other two books she has written. I have been encompassed in the beauty described, voicing of anxiety, the acquaintances met during the journey. Also questioning climate charge and biodiversity. Questions we all need to address.
Highly recommended.

Excellent.

Raynor has once again delivered a masterpiece. I can't recommend this or her previous two books highly enough.
Thanks Raynor & Moth.

Gratitude, Love and Courage

Another wonderful extension to Raynor’s previous works. Having walked much of the West Highland way on my Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award in the early 1990’s, Raynor’s descriptions of the highs and lows of the walk brought memories flooding back. The way she captures the essence of the Scots and Yorkshire folk, is brilliant. Equally, her ability to describe the beauty of her and Moth’s surroundings, animal encounters, and the desperate plight of the English countryside, can only encourage the largest couch potato to pull on their boots and soak up the beauty of the land. More impressive is Moth’s health gains, along with his and Raynor’s symbiotic existence. Simply beautiful.

Another gem

Congratulations Raynor on achieving all you have, by physical exertion on the trail and otherwise in imparting all you have learned and experienced to us, the readers (or listeners in this case!).
I’ve so enjoyed your 3 books and look forward to more.
Thank you also for the bonus ‘tea and chat’ wth Moth - it was great to hear his voice, exactly as I imagined it. You’re both treasures.

The perseverance and courage needed on this walk plus the environmental message

The environmental message is clear. The walk symbolises the determination we are all going to need if we want to save ourselves from extinction

Describing a moment

Having listened to all three in this series, I am struck with how Raynor Winn describes each moment with such completeness that I feel the wind, smell the bog, hear every sound from the distant cry of the cuckoo to the roar of mountain storms. A magical and compelling journey

Walking is a lifesaver

I have loved all of Rae’s books & hope there are more to come.
Walking is about connection with nature & each other. So full of promise of what is around the next corner, over the next hill & beyond the next camp. An ongoing conversation with yourself and others.

Amazing!

I have read all of Raynor’s books and loved them all. She is so inspiring and her detailed storytelling has me captivated. Beautiful love story about a woman who refuses to give up on her man. You won’t regret reading this. The end had me in tears.
