About this listen

From the best-selling author of The Light After the War comes the unforgettable story of a young woman waging her own war against the Nazis as a spy for the Resistance on the French Riviera.

Paris, 1943: Lana Antanova is rushing to tell her husband she is pregnant when she witnesses him being executed by a Gestapo officer for hiding a Jewish girl in a piano. Overcome with grief, Lana loses the baby.

A few months later, a heartbroken Lana is approached to join the Resistance on the French Riviera. As the daughter of a Russian countess, Lana has the perfect background to infiltrate the émigré community of Russian aristocrats who socialise with Nazi officers, including the man who killed her husband.

Lana’s cover story makes her the mistress of a wealthy Swiss playboy, the darkly handsome and charismatic Guy Pascal, and her base his villa in Cap Ferrat. Together they make a ruthlessly effective team. Consumed by her mission, Lana doesn’t count on becoming attached to a young Jewish girl or falling helplessly in love with Guy.

As the Nazis close in, Lana’s desire to protect the ones she loves threatens to put them all at risk.

Critic Reviews

"Filled with danger and romance, Lana's War is the story of a courageous woman waging her own battle against the Nazis.... Cinematic in scope, this novel will keep readers turning pages with twists and turns that lead to an unforgettable ending." (Renee Rosen, best-selling author of Park Avenue Summer)

"In Lana's War, Anita Abriel puts the reader on the French Riviera during World War II, in a time and a place where the barbed wire fences and marching boots of the Nazis are terrifying, even as the sweep of Mediterranean views and bursts of bright bougainvillea are intoxicating. Lana is a heroine to root for, and her story of loss and love is inspiring and life-affirming. I was completely engrossed in this lush, transportive novel." (Allison Pataki, New York Times best-selling author of The Queen's Fortune)

Classic war romance story

I really enjoyed this book. I always enjoy war time based stories, learning some facts along with a good narrative. This book was really well narrated, the reader mastering accents for different characters, tone of voice was spot on for the emotion of the character.

Book spoiled by accent!

This was not a bad story but was ruined for me from the beginning by the atrocious French accent attempted by reader. Such a shame, I found myself shouting at my phone!!

Ok but not awesome

This story was reminiscent of so many others. Plot was fairly predictable. I persevered hoping for more.

Not as good as I had hoped

If you're a fan of historical fiction (mainly WW2) like me, don't have high hopes. On it's own, a lovely read and nice story. But I picked out too many holes and things that were just a bit ridiculous.
