About this listen
The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare's newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally best-selling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.
It's been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.
Together with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn't lead her in treacherous directions....
Making things even more complicated, Julian's brother Mark - who was captured by the faeries five years ago - has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind - and they need the Shadowhunters' help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn't recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?
Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare's Dark Artifices series.

Riveting
While I have watched the Mortal Instruments movie I did not know much about the books and the Shadowhunter story. This series did not require you to have read the first series as it provided all the detail and back story needed to understand the Shadowhunter world. The characters and places were brought to life and I found myself thoroughly immersed in this world on a daily basis.

Glad I listened.
I love the Shadowhunter world Cassandra Clare has created and I have read all the previous books. I had begun reading this one and found it difficult. But the audiobook is means I got to the action much faster. Once you get into it this is a good book. I really do feel for Jules and Emma now. I really want to know what their next adventure holds now.

Great listen from start to finish. It was good to have some of the old characters show up as well, especially Jem and church.

Reading is a bit off
Fantastic book, as with everything by Cassandra Clare. My only issue is that the voice at times sounded robotic which lost the atmosphere of the book. Some expression was used by more was probably needed.

Lady Midnight
I really loved this book. I must admit, after the conclusion to the dark war in the mortal instruments series, I was thinking anything else would be a let down. Whilst initially this had some truth to it… I was somewhat familiar with Emma, Julian and Mark, as they played a small part in the end of the mortal instruments, but the story just wasn’t as captivating as its predecessors whom I had spend so many hours with.
However, as time went on and I spent more time with this story, I truly became engrossed in it! I loved the continuance of Mark’s story after being taken by the hunt, as well as the complexities of Emma and Julian’s relationship! Furthermore, the enemy slowly revealed itself and left us on a cliffhanger leading into book 2.
I thoroughly enjoyed these books, just as much as Cassandra’s other shadow hunter works!
