About this listen

This is the highly anticipated new novel from New York Times number one best-selling author of Red Queen.

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven continues weaving his web in an attempt to maintain control over his country - and his prisoner.

As Mare remains trapped in the palace, the remnants of the Red Rebellion continue organizing and expanding. As they prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows, Cal - the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart - will stop at nothing to bring her back.

In this breathless new novel from the best-selling author of the Red Queen series, blood will turn on blood, and allegiances will be tested on every side. If the Lightning Girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?

Read by Amanda Dolan, Adenrele Ojo and Erin Spencer.

Let it end!

Just finished this book and can't believe that there will be a 4th! This book was filled with nothing, the Cameron chapters could of been completely left out. The second part of the book was just a repeat of the same thing I had read in the last two. This series could of been finished easily in this book if actually content was put in it. A book like this should be exciting to read not a chore.

Decent Story, Unlikable Narrators

Been listening to this series for a few weeks now. The narrator for Mare puts next to no acting or emphasis on the characters, and I find myself tuning out every now and then.
The voice actor for Cameron sounds like a 30+ year old women and the character is 15, seems odd to me.
And the narrator for Evangeline talks too slow and I have to up the speed a bit.

But other than that, the story itself is captivating and worth the listen.

Narrator for Cameron 😕

I wasn't a big fan of the narrator for Cameron's chapters. Amanda Dolan on the other hand was fantastic as usual.

An Enjoyable Sequel

I enjoyed this book more than the second, but I think it's better to marathon the series in order to get the full impact.

Capturing

Hearing the different perspectives from each character was enlightening and intriguing. Quite a suprise, not how you pictured some of them.

good story

good story - found Mate less whingey in this book

performance - found the performance for Cameron was hard to understand different characters as her voice doesn't change and was confusing to stay understand which character was talking

Eh

The ending was really interesting! The rest? Eh.
The narration was just okay, with some… interesting choices, particularly for Cameron. I love the narrator’s voice, just not for a moody teen in a dystopia. The plot was nothing to write home about, I found myself zoning out often and the first 2/3s of the book was a little lacklustre and slow :)

If you've read a throne of Glass, don't bother

I had to listen to it on speed 2 on Audible as I was determined to finish it, and I have no idea how I even managed to read three books from this series. It's nothing more than a bunch of self-entitled people, whiny teens who spend their time feeling for themselves or bitching about each other. The rare action is boring and no chemistry. What is the point of Cameron's POV? When my daughter told me the ending of book #4, I am so glad I didn't waste my money on it, and gosh I could get back my three credits on Audible. Compared to a Throne of Glass, or a Court of Thorns and Roses, this series has nothing. Just boring.

Don't Bother

Enjoyed the first book but the rest have been garbage, didn't enjoy book 2 but thought it might get better in book 3... well I was wrong. There is so many words in this book that mean nothing, it's like the author was just trying to hit a word limit as if she's in school trying to hit 1000 word mark in an essay. Characters somehow got worse and are super cringey, the romantic scenes are written by someone who has never experienced intimacy "I want to lick the words out of her mouth" like what does that even mean? How did she write that sentence and go yeah this is good... They introduce a group of people with the lightning abilities and it was like a group of anime characters, they all had coloured hair to match the colour of their lightning and the one with white hair who was super quiet it's the strongest one. So many cliches and extremely repetitive, they repeated the same conversations through out the whole book. Very disappointing as the universe this book is set in is really interesting. This whole 4 book series could've been done in 4 if she didn't just repeat herself over and over again. DO NOT BOTHER LISTENING.
