About this listen
I am Emmalyn Mikaelson.
My husband, in a rage, hit me in front of the wrong person. Diego, or Kincaid to most, beat the hell out of him for it. I left with Diego anyway. Even though he could turn on me just like my husband did, I knew I had a better chance of survival with Diego. That was until I realized Kincaid could hurt me so much worse than my husband ever could. Physical pain pales in comparison to troubles of the heart.
I am Diego "Kincaid" Anderson.
She was a waitress at a bar in a bad situation. I brought her to my clubhouse because I knew her husband would kill her if I didn't. Now she has my protection and that of the Cerberus MC. I never expected her to become something more to me. I was in more trouble than I've ever been in before, and that's saying a lot considering I served eight years in the Marine Corp with Special Forces.
Contains mature themes.

could not get sold on this book
I listened due to Aiden, didn't take to kasha, her Inflections needed to be better I think.
MC ..don't know why Ms James included it. seemed like a cover for special ops...it was extreeeeemly tame.
heroine I couldnt empathise with. her past was written/described way worse than she seemed to accept. instant attraction ok, I get it.
MC president, not portrayed as cluey at all, especially when it comes to women, no sex, hell he's more like a gentleman from wall street than a biker outlaw.
the miscommunication wasn't written well enough to sound convincing and heroine keeps running off because of it.
just jumped to I'm in, no I'm out, I'll keep her safe, or may be I can't....my frustration grew.
I knew where the antoganists were going to be but even that was tame.
I'm disappointed as I love series but can't get into M s James writing...so sorry.
I went from hard, brutal, soul tearing tillie Cole and T. m. Frazier to a lighter MC Lilly Atlas but this book doesn't do it for me, no flow, no serious angst, no twists....😏😏😔😔😔😔

A brilliant start to a series. I loved the growth of the main characters and the world building was fantastic.

Good
Emmalyn Mikaelson has been the victim of abuse most of her life seperated from her family by her abuser and kept alone with no friends just his abuse. Then one night he hits her in front of the wrong person. Enter Kincaid leader of the Cerberus MC and he hates men who abuse women and he decks the guy on the spot, Emmalyn know thats her husband and abuser will kill her now and leaves with Kincaid. She has jumped on the back of his motorcycle and from there she learns he is an ex-marine and a really good guy and she falls for him just as he falls for her. The storyline is a little predictable and a little slow at times.

Kincaid
This book was edgy with some angst, some humor and sweet moments, but it was also emotional with some danger thrown in. It had everything you look for in a good romance book. I really enjoyed it.
