About this listen

Gemini Berry is looking forward to spending a lazy summer in her small hometown of Meadow Lake, Pennsylvania, with her best friend, Sunny. The teens' main goal is to get their hands on the Ring of Atlantis, a supposedly enchanted object that brings the bearer wealth and luck. Along with their new friend, Ivy, they plan to try the ring for themselves. But their carefree caper is soon halted by a crime that outrages and divides the town.

Charles Wilkes, a prisoner at the local penitentiary, has been killed by the warden, Hugh Luther. Gemini's mother, Geraldine, witnessed the crime and swears that Luther stabbed Wilkes in cold blood. No one cares. Almost everyone believes Wilkes got what he deserved.

When Geraldine agrees to testify against the warden in the murder trial, some townspeople shun her and make threats against the family. The threats bring Gemini's estranged father back into town and turn some of her classmates against her.

Gemini, once consumed by thoughts of fame and fortune, must face reality and choose a side in the upcoming trial. Later, when people take the law into their own hands, she learns more about human nature than she bargained for.
